Privacy Policy
What this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. Written to describe how this site actually works rather than to cover every hypothetical.
Effective date: August 28, 2026
This policy applies to lauraebrown.com, operated by the Law Office of Laura E. Brown ("the firm," "we," "us"). It covers information collected through this website. It does not cover information the firm holds about existing clients, which is governed by the attorney-client relationship, the California Rules of Professional Conduct, and your engagement agreement.
The short version
- The only information we ask for is what you type into the contact form.
- There are no cookies, no analytics, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers on this site.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information for anyone else's marketing.
- The one third-party embed is a Google map on the contact page, which is Google's service and follows Google's rules.
Information you give us
If you submit the contact form, you provide your name, phone number, email address, and optionally the type of matter, how you found the firm, and a description of your situation. If you call or email instead, we receive whatever you choose to tell us.
We use this only to evaluate and respond to your inquiry, to run a conflict-of-interest check, and — if the firm takes the matter — to represent you. We do not add you to a marketing list.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which typically include your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and a timestamp. These are generated by the hosting infrastructure for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with form submissions.
This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Nothing about your visit is tracked across other websites.
Third parties involved
Only three, each doing one narrow job:
- The website host serves the pages and keeps the server logs described above.
- Resend is the email service that delivers contact form submissions to the firm's inbox. The contents of your message pass through it in transit.
- Google Maps supplies the embedded map on the contact page. When that map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies under the Google Privacy Policy. We have no control over and do not receive that data. If you would rather not load it, avoid the contact page or block third-party frames in your browser — the phone number and address are also given as plain text.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We disclose it only:
- to the service providers above, strictly to operate the site and deliver your message;
- where required by law, subpoena, court order, or a State Bar inquiry;
- where necessary to establish or defend legal claims, or to protect the safety of any person;
- with your direction or consent, including a referral to another attorney you ask us to make.
How long we keep it
Inquiries that do not become matters are kept only as long as needed to run a conflict check and respond, and then for a limited period as a record that contact occurred — which itself matters for future conflict checking. If the firm takes your matter, your information becomes part of the client file and is retained under the firm's file retention practices and applicable professional obligations.
Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS with HSTS, so traffic between your browser and the site is encrypted. The contact form posts to a server-side endpoint that validates and rate-limits submissions; no email credentials are ever exposed in the browser. A strict Content Security Policy limits what can execute on these pages.
That said, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and email in particular is not a confidential channel. Please do not use this website to send anything you would not want read by someone other than the intended recipient.
Your California privacy rights
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, California residents have rights to know what personal information a business collects, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, so there is no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism to offer. The categories we collect are identifiers (name, email, phone, IP address) and the contents of what you write to us, collected directly from you for the purposes described above.
To make a request, email laura@lauraebrown.com or call (559) 319-0586. We will need enough information to verify who you are before acting. Note that information held as part of a client file, or that we are required to retain by law or professional obligation, may be exempt from deletion.
Children
This site is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
This site links to outside resources such as the State Bar of California's licensee search. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes to how we handle information already collected will be described rather than made silently.
